U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced on Tuesday that Ibrahim Tunde Ijaoba, a Nigerian national who entered the country illegally, is in federal custody awaiting deportation.
Officials cited his extensive criminal record and prior affiliation with the Bloods street gang as grounds for removal.
Ijaoba’s convictions include:
- Aggravated assault on a police officer with a firearm
- Assault and aggravated assault
- Armed robbery
- Obstruction
- Drug sales
- Escaping police custody
ICE confirmed that Ijaoba has a final removal order and will remain detained pending deportation proceedings.
The case underscores stepped-up enforcement under President Trump’s administration since January 2025, with a focus on deporting individuals with criminal histories.
Online reactions largely praised the move as a boost to public safety, though some expressed surprise at a Nigerian’s involvement in a gang traditionally associated with African-American communities.
